LEWIS AND CLARK AT TRAVELER'S REST

This scene depicts the arrival of the Corps of Discovery at the place that Lewis called Traveler's Rest which is on the bank of Lolo Creek in Lolo, Montana.. The artist has quoted from Lewis's journal: ".....as our guide informes that we should leave the river at this place and the weather appearing settled and fair I determined to halt the next day rest our horses and take some Scelestial Observations we called this Creek Traveler's rest....... Captain Meriwether Lewis, Monday, September 9, 1805."
