ABOUT THE ARTIST

Americana Style Folk Art

Maxine Stahl's intrigue with design and color stimulates a sense of adventure clearly reflected in her art.  Throughout her career, her finished products have revealed beloved techniques drawn from the Impressionistic as well as Folk and Primitive art eras.

These methods have afforded Maxine the opportunity to incorporate her unique sense of light and dark, and color culminating in this stunning present day style of "Living Folk Art".

Sandy's Flower Fantasy

The style of this late 19th Century English Chest of Drawers with a beveled, swinging mirror offered great inspiration for the finished product

In the spirit of renowned Primitive and Folk Artist, Mary Robertson Moses (commonly known as "Grandma Moses"), Maxine's art also reflects the influence of the American Folk Art of the 17th and 18th centuries.  Women were often inspired to bring color into their homes and entertainment into their otherwise routine, and often dull, lives by exploring various mediums of art including the colorful painting of furniture and walls.

A native Californian, the artist and her husband moved to Montana in 1994 where she has been able to indulge her greatest interest and pursue her art career full time.  Maxine's art is exhibited in several art galleries in Montana and is on display in many homes throughout the United States.
